1. Use of the Platform
Saknes ("the Platform") is an online heritage mapping service operated at saknes.org and app.saknes.org. By using the Platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
2. User-Generated Content
The Platform allows you to submit content including but not limited to: property locations, family names, ancestor information, photographs, stories, and heritage items ("User Content").
- You retain ownership of your User Content.
- By submitting User Content, you grant Saknes a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the Platform for the purpose of operating and promoting the service.
- You represent that you have the right to share any content you submit, including photographs and personal information about family members.
- You agree not to submit content that is defamatory, misleading, or infringes on any third party's rights.
- Saknes reserves the right to remove any content that violates these terms or is deemed inappropriate.
3. Saknes Pass & Payments
Certain features of the Platform may require a paid subscription ("Saknes Pass"). Payment terms are displayed at the time of purchase. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis unless cancelled. Refund requests should be directed to info@saknes.org.
Payments are processed by third-party providers. Saknes does not store your payment card information directly.
4. Privacy & Data
We take your privacy seriously. Here is how we handle your data:
- Authentication: We use Supabase for user authentication. Your email address and account data are stored securely in our Supabase instance.
- Analytics: We use Google Analytics (measurement ID: G-L980TSCQRZ) to understand how visitors use the site. This collects anonymised usage data including page views, session duration, and general location.
- User Content: The properties, family names, and heritage information you submit are stored in our database and displayed on the public map. Do not submit information you wish to keep private.
- Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and analytics cookies via Google Analytics. By using the Platform, you consent to our use of these cookies.
5. Intellectual Property
The Saknes name, logo, design, and original content are the property of Saknes. The 1935 topographic map tiles are sourced from publicly available Latvian cartographic archives. User-submitted content remains the property of its respective contributors as described in Section 2.
6. Limitation of Liability
The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Saknes is not liable for any loss, damage, or inaccuracy arising from the use of the Platform or reliance on its content. Genealogical information submitted by users has not been independently verified.
7. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
